VandalCARE: Report a Concern

We CARE about the success and well-being of our Vandal Family. The mission of the VandalCARE team is to provide care and concern for students, faculty and staff who may be in distress. The CARE team provides proactive assistance to distressed individuals by monitoring behavior, developing appropriate intervention plans and coordinating care and follow-up. 

If you consider the situation you are a reporting an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.

When to Submit a Report

You should file a CARE Report whenever you are concerned about a member of the campus community.

Examples of types of behavior they might exhibit include:

DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR

...may interfere with learning activities and other functions of the university and might impact the participation of others. This includes being verbally abusive or intimidating to others or disrupting class activities.

DISTRESSED BEHAVIOR

...is an outward display of a person’s inability to manage emotional difficulties. This includes changes in appearance, sleep, weight or hygiene, and irritability or tearfulness.

DISTURBED BEHAVIOR

...may be described as strange or odd behavior that causes alarm, fear or frustration such as suicidal thoughts, impaired speech or disjointed thoughts, paranoid thoughts or bizarre behavior, risk-taking behavior.

DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR

...may be a potential threat to the safety of others. Behaviors include a lack of empathy or sense of entitlement, expressing themes of violence, and blaming others for problems.

By enrolling at the University of Idaho, students voluntarily accept responsibility for compliance with all university policies as well as local ordinances, state and federal laws. Each student shall be responsible for their conduct at all times from the time the university grants admission through the actual awarding of a degree. View the Student Code of Conduct >>

You should file a Conduct Report if you believe a student has broken the university's Student Code of Conduct. This includes, but is not limited to, instances of academic dishonesty, misuse of university resources or property and alcohol & other drug use. 

Alcohol & Other Drugs

You should report instances illegal use, possession, or sale of prohibited drugs and/or alcohol which may include, but is not limited to:

  • The sale, use, or possession of illegal drugs
  • The sale or illegal possession/consumption of alcoholic beverages in facilities owned, leased, or operated by U of I and on campus grounds

Academic Integrity

You should report all instances of academic dishonesty so a central record of violations can be maintained. Instances of dishonesty include, but are not limited to:

  • Cheating - Plagiarism - Fabrication
  • Multiple Submissions
  • Misrepresentation of Academic Records
  • Unauthorized Collaboration/Collusion
  • Research Misconduct

Sexual Misconduct Report

You should file a Sexual Misconduct Report if you feel that a member of the campus community has experienced sexual misconduct (stalking, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual harassment or assault). You may also contact the Office of Civil Rights and Investigations by calling 208-885-4285. 

Additional Resources

You should submit a Bias Report if you experience or observe any form of discrimination or harassment based on a protected characteristic in the campus community. Protected characteristics include: race, color, religion, national origin, age, protected military status, age, disability, family status, genetic information, creed or sex-based discrimination that includes pregnancy, parenting, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression. You may also contact the Office of Civil Rights and Investigations by calling 208-885-4285.

We work closely with partners across campus to gather information and resources to better serve those in need. A critical part of the VandalCARE process is working with our Case Managers to develop a plan of action that is best suited to the individual. Our process is caring, supportive, positive, and solution-oriented.
