Outstanding Junior/Silver Lance Award

Silver Lance was started in 1923 to recognize the outstanding men who were leaders on the Idaho campus. The group has evolved to recognize Idaho men and women who have demonstrated leadership experience. Ten students are "tapped" each year.  Past members include U.S. Senators, judges, and other prominent alumni.

Nominees must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA for their undergraduate studies and must have completed 89 credits by May 2012 to qualify.

Application procedure:
Part of the application process includes a personal statement (limit two pages) addressing how you have demonstrated the following:

  • Academic achievement
  • Participation in on-campus and off-campus activities
  • Leadership experience
  • Commitment to serving others
  • Any additional information pertinent to the award

Submit a letter of recommendation from a UI faculty or staff member.

Ten awards are available. Nominees will be solicited from deans, department heads, faculty, staff, coaches and students. Self-nominations are also accepted. All information regarding nominees and how they are rated is kept confidential.

ASUI President or designee

Applications of the Outstanding Freshman/Valkyries Award winners are forwarded to the selection committee for the Dean Vettrus Scholarship.
