Eligibility and Application Information
Eligibility
The McNair Scholars Program serves the following student populations:
- Low-Income individuals who are first-generation college students
- Guidelines on the federal low-income threshold can be found on the U.S. Department of Education website.
- First-generation college students means - (1) A student neither of whose natural or adoptive parents received a baccalaureate degree; or (2) A student who, prior to the age of 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, and whose supporting parent did not receive a baccalaureate degree. (3) An individual who, prior to the age of 18, did not regularly reside with or receive support from a natural or an adoptive parent.

Additional Eligibility Requirements
- US citizen or permanent resident
- Have at least 4 semesters left in your undergraduate degree
- Minimum 2.75 GPA (Incoming Sophomore Standing) / 3.0 GPA (Incoming Junior Standing)
- Sincere commitment to enroll in academic/research graduate programs (not including professional degrees such as MD, JD, DVM, MBA, etc.) immediately after graduation.

The application consists of four parts that do not need to be submitted all at once. The deadline for Fall 2024 consideration is April 15, 2025. We encourage interested applicants to take their time in applying to ensure a quality application submission.
