Arranging Services
The University of Idaho is committed to providing excellent support services for students who are D/deaf and hard of hearing. The goal of the staff of Disability Support Services is to provide access to academic programs, university events, and services of the university. Services available through Student Disability Services (DSS) include:

• Interpreting in ASL, PSE, or SEE
• Notetaking Services ( Please see the Notetaking information sheet for procedure in acquiring a notetaker)
• Assistive Listening Devices
• Academic Advisement
• Priority Registration
• Referral to campus services

DSS strives to create an academic environment that is fully accessible for all students, including those with communication barriers. Our office is located in the Commons building, room 333. In order to receive services students must:
Meet with DSS staff and fill out intake forms
Provide current disability documentation

• Meet with the Coordinator of Deaf Services to discuss appropriate accommodations
• Take the accommodation form to instructors for signatures
• Submit the signed accommodation form to DSS for your student file

When you meet with the Coordinator of Deaf Services accommodations will be discussed and arranged based on the need demonstrated in your disability documentation, availability of services and your personal preferences. Once services have been agreed upon, the coordinator will begin the process of arranging services for you. The university intends to provide the best services available, and the process can be time consuming and lengthy, so please contact DSS as much in advance as possible. Qualified interpreters are in high demand and locating the right one(s) for you may require a great deal of effort.

Communication Services
Communication Services provided by Disability Support Services will be available for the following activities:

• Student Classes
• Activities required by the instructor for a class
• Meetings between students and professors
• University of Idaho sponsored activities
• ASUI sponsored activities
• Meetings between students and faculty/staff of the university
