Designing Sustainable Landscapes
Shape your career as a licensed landscape architect in a program accredited by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board (LAAB). The MLA program provides the credentials and training required to practice as a licensed landscape architect. This challenging field blends art and design with applied environmental and social sciences to create sustainable solutions for urban and natural landscapes. Using the skills and knowledge developed in this program, students address critical sustainability issues, including water conservation, resilient communities, green infrastructure, urban design, and sustainable development.
Fast Facts
- Three-year professional MLA program for students who hold an undergraduate degree in a field other than landscape architecture.
- One and a half to two-year post-professional MLA available to students who already have a degree in Landscape Architecture or closely related environmental design field from another university.
- Collaborate with classmates, faculty and students from related disciplines on projects that address real-world design problems facing communities throughout Idaho.

Moscow
The MLA Program in Moscow covers a broad range of contemporary issues in landscape architecture, including cultural landscapes, sustainability, green architecture and landscape change. Students can complete the full degree program in Moscow with faculty who have expertise in these areas. Moscow also offers a residential campus experience and the resources typical of a major university. Students interested in working on urban issues can relocate to Boise to complete the last year of curriculum in a metropolitan setting.
Boise
Students primarily interested in urban issues, including resilient cities and sustainable development, can complete the full degree program in Boise. Boise offers numerous opportunities for professional internships with local firms and students are immersed in an intimate, interdisciplinary studio setting with graduate students in architecture and bioregional planning.
