Student Handbook

This handbook provides you with essential information about the University of Idaho at this location. Classrooms are located throughout the building, with medium-sized classrooms located on the 1st floor and seminar and conference rooms on floors 2-4.
  • Bicycle Parking
    Bicycle stands are located around the building plaza. Bicycles are not allowed inside the building.
  • Bus Passes
    Full-time students are eligible for free bus passes.  Contact Operations staff at to obtain a pass.
  • Child Care
    Child care is available for children of University of Idaho Boise students through Boise State Children’s Center ( The Children’s Center has a priority for enrollment and considers applications first from BSU students, then BSU employees and finally community members. Applications for childcare for employees and students of the University of Idaho Boise will be considered after BSU employees but before community members.  University of Idaho Boise employees and students are personally responsible for all fees charged by The Children’s Center and will be charged the rate for community members (Rate C of the Children’s Center tiered fee scheduled,
  • Closures
    In the event the University of Idaho Boise must close due to weather or other circumstances, all students will be notified via their Vandal email account. Updates regarding the closure will be posted on the University of Idaho Boise website.
  • Computer Lab
    The Student Computer Lab (SCL) is located on the 2nd floor, Room 212.

  • Copiers and Printers
    Each student will have access to a variety of copiers/printers.  Check with your department for locations.
  • Hours
    The Idaho Water Center is open during the following hours:
    • Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 9:00 pm
    • Friday, 7:30 am - 5:00 pm
  • Idaho State Law Library
    The Idaho State Law Library is located on the 5th floor in Suite 560 with business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The College of Law manages and operates the State Law Library under a memorandum of agreement with the Idaho State Judiciary. Books borrowed from the University Library can be brought to the law library for official return. There is no after-hours service and there is no drop box. Free Wi-Fi is available to the public in the library.
  • Kitchen Facilities
    Kitchens for common use are found on Floors 1-4.  They are equipped with refrigerators, microwave ovens and dishwashers. Please be sure to practice good housekeeping when using the kitchens.
  • Library Services
    As a UI student, you not only have access to valuable electronic and print resources from the university’s library, but you also have the access to personalized reference assistance from one of the librarians. If you have questions about accessing information resources from off campus in both print and electronic formats, are interested in information resources pertinent to your discipline, or have general research questions, feel free to contact the distance education librarian at 208-885-2503.

  • Locker Rooms
    Locker Rooms with shower facilities are available on the 1st floor, and are available to students without charge for day-use only. Locks and locker contents must be removed daily from these lockers. Vandal cards with building access activation are required for entrance to the locker rooms.
  • Lounge Areas
    Lounge Areas for common use are found on Floors 1-5. Additionally, Joe’s Corner, is a space set aside for faculty, staff and student use at the east end of the south hallway on the 3rd floor. Access is available 24/7 to those with building access cards. Coffee is available for $0.75/cup (honor system).
  • Mailboxes
    Some departments provide mailboxes for their students. See the administrative support person in your unit for information. An outgoing US mailbox is located on the 1st floor, directly across from the locker rooms.
  • Office or Cubicle Space
    Each department will discuss your work space with you and provide keys and/or access to your assigned space.
  • Parking & Transportation
    The Idaho Water Center and Ada County Courthouse Parking Garages
    • First hour of parking is FREE, $1.00 per hour for additional hours 
    • Parking is FREE after 4:30 p.m.
    Monthly parking permits for the IWC garage are available through the on-site parking office, The Car Park.

    General Permit Parking 
    General permit parking is available at Boise State University for faculty, staff and full-time students. If you are interested in this option, contact the University of Idaho Boise Operations staff at

    Please note: Parking is not available in the WinCo store parking lot.

    Bus Pass
    Full-time Students are eligible for FREE bus passes through Valley Ride. Contact University of Idaho Boise Operations staff at or visit them in Suite 390 for details.

  • Recreation Facilities
    Full-time students have access to BSU Campus Recreation facilities at 1515 University Drive. BSU sells passes to University of Idaho students at the Service Desk in the Student Recreation Center for the duration of terms that coincide with those for BSU students. The student cost for campus recreation passes is set each year in the summer to be in effect for the new academic year beginning with the Fall Semester. (In addition to the out-of-pocket charge paid by the student, the University of Idaho makes a payment to BSU equivalent to the recreation fee paid by every full-time University of Idaho student.)

    Current rates have not yet been set, but have historically been approximately $60/semester.

    University of Idaho students are required to present their current Student ID card at the time of purchase. Students are required to provide their current address, phone number and e-mail address to BSU Campus Recreation and sign a waiver of liability, assumption of risk and indemnity agreement.   • Safety
    When the building emergency alarms go off you MUST evacuate the building. University of Idaho faculty, staff, students and guests are required to meet at the designated evacuation point - WinCo store parking lot on the corner of Front Street and Avenue A. 

    All University of Idaho Boise spaces in the Idaho Water Center have at least one floor monitor and that person will lead you out of the building.

    If you are unsure of your evacuation route, check with your monitor.  If you don't know who your monitor is, contact University of Idaho Boise Operations (208) 364-6137.
  • Vandal Cards and Building Access
    Upon your arrival, contact University of Idaho Boise Operations, 3rd floor, Suite 390 or for current card activation or to obtain a new or replacement Vandal card.  Vandal cards are programmed for access to the Idaho Water Center building outside of regular business hours, the 1st floor locker rooms, and specified areas designated by your department.
  • Vending Machines
    Vending machines are located on the 1st floor, along the center hallway just east of the restrooms.
  • Wireless Access
    Wireless AirVandalGold access is available on floors 1-5 of the building for faculty, staff, and students. Contact the Moscow Help Desk at (208) 885-4357 for help in gaining access.
