Seminar and Panel Discussion: The Invisible Water Utility Feb. 22

John Matthews of the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA) will present a talk titled: "The Invisible Water Utility: Redefining Sustainability in a Changing Climate" from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the IRIC lobby. Thetalk will be followed by a panel discussion on "Resilient Water Management in a Climate Altered World." In addition to Matthews, panelists include College of Science researcher John Abatzoglou, College of Law Professor Barbara Cosens, and Idaho Water Resources Research Institute (IWRRI) Assistant Director Mark Solomon. Light refreshments will be available. This event is sponsored by IWRRI, the NSF IGERT Water Resources Program, and the Environmental Law Society. Read more

U of I Holds CAFE Listening Sessions in Twin Falls, Nampa

The University of Idaho and its partners will hold meetings this week in Twin Falls and Nampa to discuss plans for its Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (CAFE). U of I officials will also hear comments from Idahoans on the university’s plan for the 2,000-cow agricultural research center that is slated to be the largest research dairy in the United States. The facility is planned for the Magic Valley, though a location has not yet been chosen. Read more

U of I Hosts Tribal Sovereignty Workshop Jan. 19

If you conduct field research in Idaho, then you are conducting research in the current or aboriginal lands of Idaho's five Native American Tribes. Idaho EPSCoR and the Coeur d'Alene Tribe are sponsoring a full-day workshop on Friday, Jan. 19, for faculty, graduate students and staff to introduce the issues, ethics and opportunities of conducting research in Indian Country. Engineering Associate Dean Lee Ostrom Selected for Fulbright in Finland

College of Engineering Associate Dean Lee Ostrom, director of Academic Programs at the University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, received a Fulbright Specialist award to Finland. Beginning this February, Ostrom will spend five weeks Aalto University in Helsinki working to improve safety in the university's physics and chemistry laboratories. Read more
