Western Undergraduate Exchange

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is an award for qualified incoming freshmen and transfer students who meet specific criteria. WUE students pay 150 percent of Idaho in-state tuition and fees and are not charged out-of-state tuition.

Washington & Oregon Students

First Year Students

Beginning Fall 2017, all new freshmen from WA and OR with a 3.2, or higher, unweighted accredited high school GPA are automatically eligible to receive the WUE award when applying for admission. Home school students or graduates from a non-accredited high school must meet a minimum 22 ACT/1020 SAT to qualify, and are still automatically eligible.

There is no separate application for the WUE award.

This award will be available to you for a total of four years by maintaining continuous enrollment and a 2.5 cumulative UI GPA.

WA and OR students who qualify for the WUE award cannot simultaneously receive the Discover Idaho scholarship. Because the WUE has a greater value, it will now replace the Discover Idaho scholarship for qualifying WA and OR students.

There is no deadline to complete the admission application and be considered for this WUE award.

Transfer Students

Beginning Fall 2017, all new transfer students from WA and OR with a 3.0 or higher transfer GPA are automatically eligible to receive the WUE award when filling out an application for admission.

There is no separate application for the WUE award.

This award will be available to you for a total of up to three years depending on the number of credits transferred, and by maintaining continuous enrollment with a minimum 2.5 UI GPA.

The WUE award for qualifying WA and OR transfer students will replace the Discover Idaho Scholarship.

There is no deadline to complete the admission application and be considered for this WUE award.

Other WUE Eligibility

A limited number of WUE awards are available for students who are participating in designated programs. These programs are DiversityNational Merit ScholarsPerforming Arts (dance, music, theatre) and University Honors.

Contact the specific program, listed above, or visit their program website for detailed information about participating in any of these programs.

The award is renewable up to four years for first year recipients with a minimum University of Idaho GPA. For transfer students the award is renewable up to three additional years depending on the number of transfer credits with a minimum University of Idaho GPA.

WUE states for the specific programs include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
