The program is coordinated by a nuclear engineering program committee, with membership from mechanical, chemical, electrical and civil engineering. Nuclear Engineering is principally a graduate program, delivered at the Idaho Falls Center for Higher Education for the employees of the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory and through the College of Engineering's Engineering Outreach office. Courses taught include graduate courses and undergraduate technical electives for non-nuclear engineering majors. Graduate degrees offered include the Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering, the Master of Engineering in Nuclear Engineering and the Doctor of Philosophy in Nuclear Engineering. The PhD program is run jointly with Idaho State University, which offers a PhD in Nuclear Science and Engineering. The joint doctoral program allows the sharing of courses and faculty committee members between the two institutions. A doctoral student chooses the institution for his or her degree based on research interests and the faculty appointment of his or her doctoral committee chair. Undergraduate and graduate students may be active in the UI Student Branch of the American Nuclear Society. The Chair of the NE Program Committee is Associate Dean David Woodall.
