A Play: Contemporary African Art Perspective

Abstract: Exploring relationships between found and accessible objects, my multimedia sculptures and installations are inspired by multicultural iconography, symbolism and maxims. In this exploration, a second chance is created for discarded materials and offers them a voice to be considered as treasured socio-culturally charmed possessions. Viewers are challenged to reconsider what they aesthetically perceive as art or junk. I express my unique vision of both found and collected materials and transform them into sublime forms and patterns through the process of play (collecting, assembling, deconstructing and repurposing). My art of play emphasizes on intersection between contemporary and African art practices and perspectives as a means to communicate traditional narratives, myth and philosophies.
