Admission into our seamless landscape architecture program – which leads to the new B.S.L.A. and the professional M.L.A degree required for licensure – is a competitive process.
Complete University Requirements
During your first year in the program, you will work to satisfy the University of Idaho's core educational requirements, the College of Art and Architecture Foundation and complete preparatory courses for the study of landscape architecture.
Transfer Students: Courses you have already taken may qualify you for advanced placement.
Apply to the Pre-Professional Landscape Architecture Program
Upon completion of your first-year requirements, you will be eligible to apply to the pre-professional B.S.L.A. Program. You will be evaluated on your transcripts, portfolio and grade point average (minimum 2.5 GPA required).
Apply to the Professional Landscape Architecture Program
After completing second and third-year requirements, you are eligible to apply to the professional landscape architecture program. Your application must include a portfolio of your design work, transcript and GPA (minimum 3.0 GPA required).
The four-year B.S.L.A degree requires a total of 128 credits. The five and one-half year seamless M.L.A requires a minimum of 164 credits.
Students with a degree from a different discipline at the University of Idaho or another university may apply to the three-year professional MLA degree. Students admitted to this program participate in an accelerated “bridging year” and then move directly into the graduate studio with students pursuing the MLA program.
Students who already have a degree in Landscape Architecture from another university may apply for the 1.5 -2 Year Post Professional version of the MLA. This option is desirable for students who may wish to pursue a research specialization in Landscape Architecture, consider teaching at the university level and/or obtain their MLA to advance their career.
