Undergraduate Research Experience
Two seniors in the Department of Geography, William (Bill) Mathews and Alexander Peterson, were awarded National Science Foundation EPSCoR Research Experience for Undergraduates awards. These students will work with faculty mentors to gain experience doing scientific research. Bill will be working with Dr. Crystal Kolden on a project to map aspen regeneration on The Nature Conservancy's Zumwalt Prairie Preserve in northeastern Oregon. Alexander will be working with Dr. John Abatzoglou to better understand within season and interannual variations in the ratio of precipitation in the mountains of the Northern Rockies to the lower elevations. Both awards were made through NSF EPSCoR which has worked to improve statewide research infrastructure for understanding the effects of climate change on water resources.
