IBC Checklist for Faculty

1. Submit IBC protocol (Biosafety Form) and receive approval for infectious agents and Recombinant DNA activities.

   • Current turnaround time is 15 days (amendments, new protocols and revision submittals combined).  Please submit protocols 6-8 weeks in advance of when you plan to start biological research to ensure enough time for approval.
2. Develop a Biosafety Manual. The Biosafety Officer is available to assist with your questions regarding the Biosafety Manual. The Biosafety Manual once completed is sent to the Biosafety Officer for review.
3. For work at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2), ensure that the Biosafety Cabinet has been certified within the last year.
4. At the same time you submit the Biosafety Form, please email the Biosafety Officer a request for a facility review.
5. If you plan to work at BSL-3 contact the Biosafety Officer immediately to start this process.  It may take up to 6 months or longer to obtain all the federal registration requirements.

NOTE:  The IBC cannot approve a protocol before the Biosafety Manual has been submitted and reviewed and the facility review has been satisfactorily completed.
