Friday, December 4 2009 at 10:00 AM

The University's Building Sustainable Communities initiative and Students for Place-Based Planning and Urban Design will host a webinar titled "Creating Sustainable Communities" on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m., in the Idaho Commons Panorama Room. The session, part of the American Planning Association webinar series, is free and open to the public.

This session will begin with an overview of the sustainability principles described in the book "The Natural Step for Communities" by Torbjorn Lahti and the implementation strategies offered in "Toward a Sustainable Community: A Toolkit for Local Government" written by University of Wisconsion Extension. Examples and case studies will be discussed to assist planners in identifying ways they can implement these strategies to not only impact the climate and natural resources but to improve the bottom line and the livability of the communities they serve. Professional planners may earn CM credit from this webinar.
