Nelson graduated from the US Military Academy with a degree in engineering in 1971. A US Army veteran, Nelson resigned in 1977 as a Captain, and then earned an MBA from Southern Cal and Ph.D. in human development from the Fielding Institute. He has since then become the Director of Community Relations and Marketing at St. Luke's McCall. He will be sharing his perspective on the role and impact of the University of Idaho's McCall Outdoor School of Science.

Skiing at Brundage
Ski for part of the day and then take a break from skiing, experience and enjoy Brundage Mountain Resort with an entirely new perspective. Join the MOSS program faculty for an introduction to snow science and avalanche awareness. Participants can expect to discuss back country awareness, investigate snow pits and run snow pack stability tests. This is some of the same science that is done with MOSS students, only there will be a chair lift to help us get to where we need to go.

Snowshoe Tours at MOSS
MOSS Snowshoe tours are a unique experience, usually available only to those lucky enough to sign up for a winter program. On this walk, participants will learn about Winter Ecology, Snow Science and some of the amazing adaptations made by plants and animals to survive the winter. This is the best way to experience the winter wonder of Ponderosa State Park. (Snowshoes available upon request.)

Nordic Clinics at MOSS

Ponderosa State Park is one of the premier Nordic destinations in the United States. Now it is your turn to skate and glide with expert instruction. Steve Hollenhorst will be working with you to fine tune your techniques. You may choose to skate ski or classic ski. Rumor has it that Lyle Nelson may show up as well. After you have gotten all of the tips that you need, you might be ready to go all the way out to Osprey Point!

*The equipment for the snowshoe tour and the Nordic clinics are limited. You will need to RSVP to confirm availability. We will also take registrations at the Friday evening event.
