University of Idaho Hires Communications Officer for Northern Idaho
Monday, April 8
MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho has hired Andrea Thomas as its Regional Integrated Communications Officer for northern Idaho and eastern Washington.
In this newly created position, Thomas is responsible for communication initiatives and will serve as the key media relations liaison for the university to media outlets in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene region.
“I come from a family of educators so working for an academic institution is a natural fit,” said Thomas. “I am excited to share the university’s story, highlighting innovative ways the University of Idaho is delivering on its commitment to enhance scientific, economic, social, legal, and cultural assets across the state through courses and research not only on the main campus but also at the regional centers, extension office, and research facilities right here in north Idaho.”
Thomas has a diversified professional background consisting of media relations, public relations, corporate communications, and broadcast journalism. She comes to the University of Idaho from North Idaho Health Network where she served as the director of business and community relations.
“Andrea’s experience working in the media industry and in the corporate sector makes her an ideal addition to the University of Idaho communications team,” said Chris Murray, vice president of advancement. “She will play a critical role in communicating the university’s statewide impact with a focus on the Spokane and northern Idaho market.”
Thomas began her career in broadcast journalism, working both on and off camera. Most recently she was the executive producer of news for KHQ TV, the NBC affiliate in Spokane, Wash. An active member of the north Idaho community, Thomas serves on several boards and committees, providing expertise and guidance on social media, public relations and media relations strategies. Thomas graduated from the University of Montana in 2002 with a bachelor’s of arts in journalism. Despite being a diehard Griz, fan Thomas is honored to be joining the Vandal family.
