Retirement Ready? April 14, 21, & 28

If you’re mid-life and haven’t started planning your retirement, now’s the time! Retirement Ready?, a UI Extension course that’s about money and more than money, will be offered in partnership with the Lewiston Library on three consecutive Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:30 PM at Meriwether Lewis Hall on the Lewis-Clark State College campus, starting April 14.

• April 14 — It’s More Than Money: Add Life to Your Years and Engagement with Life. Instructors: Marilyn Bischoff and Marsha Lockard

Content: Determining life expectancy; Nutrition for older adults; Physical activity-importance and type; Maintaining mental acuity. Time use during retirement; Importance of social networks, productive activities, creativity and play, lifelong learning; Setting retirement goals.

• April 21 — Crunching the Numbers & Social Security & Medicare. Instructors: Beverly Healy and Lewiston SSA representative

Content: Income and savings needed for retirement; Determining your retirement resources; Late-saver strategies; "Stepping down" expectations; Understanding Social Security and Medicare benefits.

• April 28 — Taking (Some of) the Mystery Out of Investing & Selecting a Financial Advisor. Instructors: Lyle Hansen and Luke Erickson

Content: Risk tolerance; Types of investing accounts; Dollar-cost averaging; Annuities; Defining your financial advisor needs; Types of advisors; Advisor regulators; Shopping for an advisor.
