Recycling and Solid Waste Disposal

Friday, August 9 2013

It is that time of year, when various departments realize the need to do a complete office clean out before school starts. Office clean outs and other mass solid waste generation efforts are above and beyond the daily general trash disposal capabilities of facilities' staff. Please allow at least one week's notice for doing an office clean out and contact recycling/surplus solid waste at 885-2091, so that we can provide additional waste receptacles. A budget number is required for this additional service.

Please do not put these type of items in the general trash toter units. Many of the items disposed of in an office clean out can be recycled as well, and we can assist with receptacles for that too.

Lastly... the new toter/tow mobile waste units are for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) only. Please do not put unacceptable waste in the tow units. MSW is defined as any solid waste produced, other than hazardous, infectious or unacceptable waste. Unacceptable waste or waste not allowed in tow units at the University of Idaho includes any hazardous or infectious materials (blood, body wastes, paints, spray cans, liquids, toxic substances, pesticides, oils, lab waste, chemicals etc.) Other unacceptable waste includes furniture, metals, electronic waste, wood and construction debris. For these items, either environmental safety and health (5-6524) or recycling/surplus solid waste (5-2091) will need to be contacted for proper disposal of these unacceptable items.
