GAP Scientist Reports on National Protected Areas Database

On behalf of the National Gap Analysis Program, Lisa Duarte, Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) coordinator, described the PAD-US to participants at a U.S. Geological Survey Brown Bag and National Boundaries group meeting in Washington, D.C. Oct. 19-20. The presentation summarized information in the geodatabase, system goals and design, the fundamental roles of federal and state data stewards and recommendations for improving data application. Multiple agency representatives expressed support for continued protected areas data development. Several are working to implement the data management strategies needed to support landscape to project-scale decision making. Visit gapanalysis.usgs.gov
