Wednesday, May 8
Anthony S. Davis has recently been selected as head of the department of forest, rangeland and fire sciences. He officially takes up the post on June 23, 2013. Jo Ellen Force is stepping down from this position that she has held since 1999.
Davis joined the University of Idaho faculty in April, 2007 and has served as the director of the Center for Forest Nursery and Seedling Research since that time. In February 2013 he was named the Tom Alberg and Judith Beck Chair in Natural Resources, U-Idaho’s first fully endowed professorship.
His duties will include overseeing 30 faculty, 20 staff and 350 undergraduate and graduate students that comprise the department.
In addition to the administrative experience and academic success he brings to the position, Davis also has a strong international reputation in reforestation and restoration of degraded ecosystems.
He earned his doctoral degree in forest biology from Purdue University in 2006, and holds an undergraduate degree in forestry from the University of New Brunswick (Canada).
