Location: Top end of the upper pond in the arboretum

The annual concert featuring local musicians and composers and sponsored by the University of Idaho Arboretum Associates is set for Monday, July 9.

The 7 p.m. program, “Summer Breezes and Sweet Sounds,” will be at the top end of the upper pond in the arboretum south of the U-Idaho President’s Residence on Nez Perce Drive. Parking is available at the U-Idaho Golf Course lot as well as along the street. The concert is free to the public.

Daniel Bukvich, professor in the Lionel Hampton School of Music, has organized a program highlighting various local ensembles.

Musicians will perform a newly composed piece for Tabla drums and string quartet, by Navin Chettri, a recent U-Idaho music graduate.

The Arboretum Chamber Choir will perform Bukvich’s “The Raven,” based on the poem by Edgar Allan Poe. Guest reader for the work is Michael O’Rourke, former U-Idaho philosophy faculty member.

The Arboretum Percussion Ensemble also will perform. U-Idaho faculty members confirmed so far are: Vanessa Sielert, saxophone; Vern Sielert, trumpet; Miranda Wilson, cello; Sean Butterfield, trumpet; and Bukvich, percussion.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or deck chairs for seating. There will be limited transportation available for those who have a difficult time walking to the site. Rain will cancel the concert.
