The Physical Education Program faculty conducts outreach programs to promote physical activity in schools and the community. The program is dedicated to improving physical activity participation in Idaho communities and beyond. The goals for the outreach program in physical activity pedagogy include:
- To foster and generate effective physical activity pedagogy practice and research in order to improve the well-being of society through physical activity mediums.
- To work with communities to serve, build, and advance the physical activity culture.
- To serve as a resource for University of Idaho students and faculty, community practitioners, stakeholders and officials with an interest in physical activity pedagogy teaching and research.
Current outreach efforts include working with communities to enhance physical activity opportunities. For example, PETE faculty are working with the Coeur d'Alene tribal school and Lakeside schools to enhance the amount, intensity, and opportunity for physical activity during physical education and during the school. Faculty provide assistance in fitness and pedometer assessment, physical activity breaks in the classroom, and policy assessment.
