Work at the Women's Center!

Do you have a work-study award for the 2022-2023 academic year? Come and work at the Women’s Center! We offer a dynamic, fast-paced, fun, exciting environment to learn about gender and social justice and to develop your activism! All positions listed are about 6-8 hours per week.

Office Assistant  (two positions available)

Assist office staff with the daily operation of the Center, distribute flyers promoting Women’s Center and other co-sponsored events, greet and assist visitors to the Center, maintain the Center’s bulletin boards, process mail, make photocopies, ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the Center and participate in special programs and events such as our Open House, Women’s History Month, and other activities of the Center. In addition to your duties as office assistant, you will also assist with training and coordinating the Center’s service-learning students and volunteers.

Diversity & Inclusion Programming Assistant 

Serve as a liaison to different diversity offices on campus, e.g. CAMP, OMA, NASC, and the LGBTQA Office. You will assist the Women’s Center in conceptualizing, planning and implementing exciting and innovative programs and events relating to diversity and inclusion for U of I students, faculty & staff and local community members. This includes (but is not limited to) creating a diversity bulletin board, researching and posting diverse and inclusive articles on social media and presenting on topics related to global and transnational feminisms. You will work with the Women’s Center staff to develop, facilitate and implement a broad range of equity programming and initiatives. This is a great opportunity to build and enhance skills in program planning and delivery, while also contributing to a more inclusive campus environment.

Women's Center Events & Programming Assistant  (two positions available)

Assist the Women’s Center’s Program Coordinator in conceptualizing, planning and implementing exciting and innovative programs and events for U of I students, faculty & staff and local community members. You will assist with monthly and annual programs that may include scheduling meetings, arranging for film screenings, tabling, selling tickets, distributing promotional material and other activities. You will also be helping with designing flyers, writing press releases, contacting guest speakers and other facilitators and arranging for meeting/event space, as well as setting up and tearing down monthly and annual events.

Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies Program Assistant 

Assist WGSS co-directors, Katie Blevins and Alexandra Teague, with advertising the WGSS minor, including courses and relevant events, via social media, flyers around campus, and emails to current minors. Attend relevant events (e.g. Fem Fest or events WGSS is helping sponsor) as a representative of the program. Assist with other program administration as needed.

Violence Prevention Programming Assistant 

Assist the Women’s Center in conceptualizing, planning and implementing exciting and innovative programs and events relating to gender-based violence for U of I students, faculty & staff and local community members. These events include (but are not limited to) programs like Take Back the Night and The Bandana Project. You will work closely with the Program Coordinator as a Program Assistant, assisting with monthly and/or annual programs that may include scheduling meetings, arranging for film showings, tabling, selling tickets, distributing promotional material and other activities. You will also be helping with designing flyers, writing press releases, contacting guest speakers and other facilitators and arranging for meeting/event space. You will be a liaison to different offices and task forces on campus, e.g. the Violence Prevention Programs office, Green Dot, Campus Safety Week, etc.
