About
The Department of Soil and Water Systems combines faculty in soil science, agronomy, hydrology, sediment transport, irrigation engineering, waste management and precision agriculture to address resource issues related to soil, water quality and quantity and sustainable food, energy and waste systems.
The department has a statewide presence and is committed to excellence in teaching, research and extension. We prepare students to take up careers in soil, plant and environmentally related disciplines to discover new scientific knowledge and develop technologies to sustain production systems, extend technological developments to the public and promote the wise use, management and stewardship of soil, plant and water resources.
Our faculty and support personnel are located on the main Moscow campus and at research and extension centers in Aberdeen, Idaho Falls, Kimberly, Parma and Twin Falls.
Our faculty are making significant contributions to improve soil and water health for Idaho’s agriculture industry, protect our unique ecosystems and contribute to sustainable solutions for the future. Learn more about soil science efforts at U of I.
