Choosing a Major

First of all, don’t panic. Choosing a major may feel like the biggest decision of your life, but it is just one in a long line of decisions that will help to shape you as an individual. If you’re having trouble deciding on a major, here are a few helpful hints to help you in this search:
  1. Shop on the Degree Finder. This tool will provide you a wealth of practical information about UI degrees – including job opportunities, degree requirements, and other related degrees you may find interesting.
  2. Take classes in majors that interest you. Finding the right fit often means figuring out what you don’t want to do. The best way to do this is to take classes in those areas.
  3. Talk to people. Discuss careers and majors with numerous people to ensure your get a wide range of perspectives. Ask friends, roommates, advisors, professors, Career Center employees, etc.
  4. Visit the professionals. Make sure to utilize the professional staff in the Career Center and the Counseling and Testing Center to help you identify your career interests and personal aptitudes.
