Hazard communication symbols

Hazard Communication

What services do we offer?

EHS provides assistance to departments in developing their Hazard Communication program.  Online and classroom training courses are available.  If you need a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for a particular chemical or product, and have been unsuccessful in getting one from the manufacturer or distributor, EHS can usually locate and forward the SDS.

What is your role?

Do you know what the symbols above would mean if you saw them on a chemical container?  If not, take advantage of training opportunities to increase your awareness and understanding.

Supervisors:
  • Provide training opportunities for your employees.
  • Make sure Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) are readily accessible during each work shift and employees know where to find them.
Employees:
  • Refer to container labels and Safety Data Sheets before using a chemical or chemical product.
  • Follow the precaution statements and use personal protective equipment as necessary or as required by your supervisor.
