Our People

The McClure Center for Public Policy Research is excited to welcome Dr. Jean Henscheid as our Interim Director. Dr. Henscheid has studied and published on a variety of policy issues, with a special emphasis on educational policy. During her 14 years with the University of Idaho, she served as a faculty member and director of the university’s general education program and, most recently, was a faculty member in the College of Education.

She is a member of the university’s graduate faculty and has taught and advised students at every level, from first-year undergraduates to doctoral students at UI as well as Washington State University, the University of South Carolina, and Portland State University. She is a nationally recognized expert on student transitions who has authored and edited numerous books, monographs, and scholarly articles on the topic and consulted on educational policy at colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad.

She is past editor of both the academic Journal of The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition and the award-winning publication, About Campus. She earned her bachelor of arts in history and master of public administration from Idaho State University and her Ph.D. in education from Washington State University. She is a proud seventh generation Idahoan raised in Blackfoot who started her career as a daily newspaper reporter and manager of employee publications at what is now the Idaho National Laboratory.

Christy Dearien's expertise is in compiling data from secondary data sources to help people understand current conditions and trends in their local communities. She manages Indicators Idaho (provides demographic and economic data for Idaho’s counties) and compiles secondary data for grant proposal problem statements. As part of the grant and project development team, she works on grant prospecting, writing, editing and evaluation.
