Phi Delta Theta Supports Operation Education
Members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity presented a check for more than $4,000 in support of Operation Education to former Operation Education Chair Karen White. The fraternity raised the funds through the sale of “Akey’s Army” T-shirts, a promotion to support Vandal Head Football Coach Robb Akey and the Vandal football team.
“Coach Akey came and talked at the house during member recruitment and he really inspired them,” said Dick Reilly ’81, the chapter’s adviser. In an effort to show their appreciation, the fraternity members hatched the idea to sell “Akey’s Army” T-shirts at pre-game events during the football season. When alumnus Wray Featherstone ’63 suggested that the proceeds of the fraternity’s Turtle Derby philanthropy effort be donated to Operation Education, the fraternity decided to also donate the money raised from selling the T-shirts. That brought the total to $4,700.
