International Programs at the University of Idaho offers a variety of programs, events, and activities designed to cultivate and foster intercultural awareness and competence. In our outreach effort, we aspire to creating a solid network between our campus and the local community in order to facilitate intercultural sharing, learning, and exchange.
Our goal is two-fold. We strive to support the acculturation of our international students and scholars by providing the necessary educational resources and training. We also aim at increasing the intercultural competence of domestic students, faculty, staff, and the community by offering workshops, intercultural programs, and most importantly, an opportunity to interact with our international students and scholars.
Our signature program Friendship Families connects international students and scholars with the local community to raise their intercultural awareness and give them an opportunity for cultural exchange. The Conversation Partners Program matches international with American students to increase their intercultural competencies, share culture and help the international students with their English-language proficiency. The Culture Kits Program provides an educational tool for students, faculty and people in the community with its large collection of artifacts from different cultures.
Cruise the World gives a chance to the campus and local community to learn about different cultures and taste samples of food from all over the world. During International Education Week, we offer lectures, workshops and discussions on international topics, and promote programs for students and scholars designed to take them abroad. We also organize activities for our international students that help them learn more about the local culture and customs.
