UI Develops Pre-College Outreach Project with Jerome Community

As part of the Latino Pre-College Outreach Project, a UI employee will work out of the Jerome middle and high schools to provide students and their families with mentorship and educational development. Forty Latino students will be selected for the first program year, which includes school-year mentoring and tutoring, family support and education on higher education; and summer programs focused on hands-on learning. An evaluation of the project will determine the feasibility of expansion to include additional cohorts. Read more

Sign-Up Night, New Urban Interface Club Begins a New Year of 4-H

The Kootenai and Shoshone county 4-H programs will host a sign-up night at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2015, for those area youths wishing to participate in 4-H activities this year. The event will be held in Building 3 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, 4056 N. Government Way, Coeur d'Alene. Youths ages 5-18 may choose from traditional offerings like robotics, sewing, forestry and animals. A new offering this year is the Urban Interface Backyard and Beyond Club. This special interest club is for youths who may not have access to farm animals, but still want to experience the fair. Read more

UI Brings Healthy Living to Lights On Afterschool

Members of the Treasure Valley community are invited to an afternoon of fun at the Lights On Afterschool Day hosted by local community leaders. Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter has proclaimed Thursday Lights on Afterschool Day to spotlight Idaho’s after-school programs. Boise Mayor David Bieter and Idaho’s first lady Lori Otter have been invited to the celebration. Read more
