Recycling

Plastic

Unsure what kind of plastic you have? Look around the container for the recycling symbol with a number inside of it. That number tells you what kind of plastic it is.

Plastics #1 and #2 can be recycled on the University of Idaho campus as well as at Moscow Recycling. Make sure your dump out any liquid or food left in the container and remove the lid. Any type of plastic lid must be thrown away.

Plastics #3-7 can only be recycled at Moscow Recycling. Make sure you dump out any liquid or food left in the container and remove the lid. Any type of plastic lid must be thrown away.

Plastic bags cannot be recycled on campus or at the Moscow Recycling facility. You can try taking them back to the grocery store. Alternatively, you can opt to use a reusable bag for all your shopping needs!

Other Materials

Aluminum (i.e., soda cans) can be recycled both on campus and at Moscow Recycling. Make sure you dump out any remaining liquid from the container.

Tin (i.e., canned food) can only be recycled at Moscow Recycling. Make sure you dump out any remaining food or liquid from the container.

Glass can only be recycling at Moscow Recycling. Make sure you clean out any remaining food or liquid from the container.

Cardboard can be recycled at certain locations around campus, like behind Wallace. It can also be recycled at Moscow Recycling. Please flatten boxes prior to recycling. 

Mixed paper can be recycled on campus and at Moscow Recycling.

White paper can be recycled on campus and at Moscow Recycling. High quality white paper may be recycled inside the Moscow Recycling facility while low-grade white paper can be recycled with the mixed paper. 

Newspaper can be recycled on campus and at Moscow Recycling. Make sure you remove anything holding the newspaper together. Inserts included in the paper may be recycled as newspaper.

Household batteries can be recycled at Moscow Recycling during operating hours only. Drop them off at the office window.

Cellphones can be recycled on campus using the Evolve program! They can also be recycled at Moscow Recycling during operating hours only. Drop them off at the office window.

Ink cartridges can be recycled on campus using the Evolve program! They can also be recycled at Moscow Recycling during operating hours only. Drop them off at the office window.

Other Items

You can donate old bicycles or bicycle parts at Moscow Recycling during operating hours for the non-profit organization “Village Bicycle Project”. You can also donate your old bike to the Palouse Bicycle Collective for repair and redistribution back into the Moscow community. For more information, visit palousebicyclecollective.org.
