William D. Ford "Direct" Loans

Congress authorized this, the newest Federal financial aid program, in 1994. Instead of applying for student loans through banks, UI students are able to receive their loan funds directly from the US Department of Education. All administration of these loans is performed by the Direct Loan Servicing Center, a contractor for the US Department of Education.  For general information about the Direct Loan program, including sample repayment calculations, visit the Direct Loan Information page.

If you are a University of Idaho student and want information about how to apply for a "Direct" loan, please contact Student Financial Aid Services.

For questions about your "Direct" Loan, please contact the Direct Loan Servicing Center
at 1-800-848-0979 or visit their web site where you can check you account status and balance information.  Deferment and/or forbearance information is also available from this page.

For consolidation loan information, including applications for consolidation loans (both regular, and "in-school" consolidations) visit the U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan Consolidation page.
