Frm. Governor Cecil Andrus Honors James A. McClure
Former Idaho Governor and Secretary of the Interior Cecil D. Andrus issued the following statement today regarding the death of Idaho Sen. James A. McClure of Idaho
“Jim McClure was a friend, collaborator and occasionally a worthy adversary from the days we served together in the Idaho State Senate in the 1960’s. With his passing, Idaho has lost a genuine statesman who loved Idaho and served it well.
“While Jim and I hail from different political faiths, we found plenty of common cause over the years ranging from working out the boundaries of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area to trying to resolve the contentious Idaho debate over wilderness. He was always fair, firm and a gentleman.
“Carol and I extend our heartfelt sympathy to Louise and the entire McClure clan. We join with all Idahoans in mourning the loss of a great Idahoan and a fine American.”
