Women's Studies connects different kinds of knowledge across many subjects. The minor offers an interdisciplinary program that uses gender to examine such cultural variables as class, ethnicity, nationality, sexual identity, and age. The courses encourage students to develop critical thinking skills that will empower them as active learners and that will lead them to a better understanding of differences in the society that surrounds them. Fields such as gerontology, mass communications, nursing, recreation, criminology, economics, health services, social work, law, psychology, and education are increasingly offering special career opportunities to students with a background in Women's Studies.

Requirements for a Women's Studies Minor

With prior approval of the Women's Studies committee, a student may also include credit from survey courses, special topics courses, or seminars meeting the guidelines for inclusion of courses in a Women's Studies minor. No more than 3 credits may count toward both the student's major and minor.
