About the College of Science

The College of Science includes departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography and Geological Science, Mathematics and Statistical Science, and Physics and is home to the IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) and the Institute for Modeling Complex Interactions (IMCI). The roughly 120 faculty members in the college carry out groundbreaking research in each of these disciplines as well as contributing to interdisciplinary fields such as bioinformatics, neuroscience, and environmental science. College of Science faculty have been responsible for roughly $15 million of grant-funded research per year. The college serves over 900 undergraduate students and over 200 graduate students.

Undergraduate Degrees

The college offers undergraduate degrees in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, geography, geology, mathematics (including emphases in actuarial science, mathematical biology, and statistics), molecular biology & biotechnology, and physics. Additionally, students can earn a certificate in GIS technology through the Department of Geography and Geology.

Graduate Programs

Graduate programs include doctoral degrees in biology, bioinformatics & computational biology, chemistry, geography, geology, mathematics, microbiology, molecular biology, & biochemistry, neuroscience, and physics. There are masters degrees in biology, bioinformatics & computational biology, chemistry, geography, geology, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, and statistics. There is also a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in mathematics, and graduate certificate programs in statistics and process & performance excellence through the Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science.
