Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP)

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is responsible for assisting the University's faculty, students, and staff in securing extramural support for their scholarly work, research, teaching, and service activities consistent with the mission of the University and for ensuring that such University activities satisfy the terms and conditions established by sponsors for their external support. OSP is also responsible for:

  • Any sub awards or subcontracts to third parties who carry out a programmatic component of a University award,

  • Identifying and maintaining compliance with federal regulations governing University research activities.
  • Works in conjunction with faculty-run compliance committees to review and approve research projects that involve animals, humans, potentially infectious materials, Select Agents and Toxins and recombinant DNA activities.

Two of the compliance committees that may be involved in collaborations with a Tribe are the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

The IRB is responsible for review, approval, and monitoring of human subject research to ensure that any approved research protocol adequately protects the rights of human research participants and complies with federal regulations.

The IACUC is responsible for review, approval, and monitoring University research and teaching involving animals in order to ensure that any approved research protocol promotes the humane care and use of animals and complies with federal requirements.
