Computer Science PhD Student Jiyin Zhang Selected as ESIP Student Community Fellow

December 08, 2023

Jiyin Zhang, a computer science PhD student of Prof. Marshall Ma’s group at University of Idaho, has been chosen as a Student Community Fellow by the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP). Jiyin will be actively contributing to the Semantic Technologies Committee, a pivotal component of ESIP's initiatives.

ESIP, known for fostering collaboration and innovation in Earth science data across federal agencies such as NASA, NOAA, and USGS, has recognized Jiyin Zhang's exceptional skills and dedication to the field. The Student Community Fellow program provides a platform for students to connect with researchers in the community, engage in real-world projects, and contribute their expertise to advance the goals of ESIP.

Jiyin Zhang's specific focus will be on the Semantic Technologies Committee, where he will bring his computer science background to address challenges and explore opportunities related to semantic representation and FAIRness (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) of open data. This committee plays a crucial role in enhancing the interoperability and understanding of data across diverse Earth science domains.
