November 2022 First Monday
Dear Alumni and Friends,
I flew out over the beautiful, multicolored trees of Boise this morning and was greeted by the snow-dusted, rolling hills of the Palouse. The changing seasons means that the end of the semester is almost upon us.
Last month, we welcomed another wonderful group of Vandals to our profession. We’re so proud of the role we play in shaping them into the next generation of leaders in our state.
And with midterms behind us, faculty and staff on both campuses celebrated Halloween with a door-decorating competition to bring our students some cheer (and sugar) as they face the final weeks of the semester.
We welcomed Erin Tomlin ‘12, to her new role as Assistant Dean of Students for the Moscow campus. After graduating from the College of Law, Erin served as a public defender for the Nez Perce Tribe, a prosecutor for the City of Moscow, and as a partner in the firm of Westberg Roepke Moore PLLC, before returning to the University of Idaho to join the Office of General Counsel. We are so glad to have her back in the law school community.
I’m grateful to the Idaho State Bar for once again inviting me to join them on the roadshow. I hope to see many of this month as we travel around the state!

Alumni Focus
Please join us in congratulating Clive Strong ’74, ’77, who received the 2022 Award of Legal Merit. Presented annually, this award is given by the faculty of the College of Law to honor an Idaho law graduate whose career exemplifies the best in the legal profession. Mr. Strong dedicated his career to the state of Idaho, serving for 34 years as a Deputy Attorney General. He has been nationally recognized for his work in the fields of natural resources and water law, and even argued two cases before the United States Supreme Court. Congratulations, Clive! We are so proud to count you as one of our own.
Student Focus
Jarrett Broughton III has been busy in Post Falls and has already logged more than 100 hours of pro bono work, more than double the academic requirement for graduation. A recipient of the Idaho Heritage Project – Rural Services Scholarship Fund, Broughton has been active with the First District Bar Association, the benefactor of the scholarship. While providing pro bono work the scholarship funding has made the regular commute, often three times per week, possible.

The Idaho Heritage Project – Rural Services Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support for students serving summer internships, externships, or pro bono service in rural communities throughout the state of Idaho. This support allows law students to take positions in our more rural communities, with the hope that these experiences and connections will encourage future practice in these areas.
Faculty Focus
Professor Anna Blaine was recently named President of the Western Pacific Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL). Professor Blaine previously served as vice president and is the first representative of Idaho Law to be named president. The WestPac is one of the largest AALL regional chapters, encompassing 10 states, Western Canada, the U.S. Pacific Territories, and four geographic zones. Congratulations Professor Blaine!
