Protecting Grapevines from Winter Injury

PNW0603

December 31, 2007

Winter freezes can kill or damage winegrape canes in regions, like the Pacific Northwest, that are subject to low winter temperatures. Although tedious, labor-intensive and expensive, cane burying is one effective solution. This six-page PNW from 2008 describes that system and two others (J-system training and the spur-pruned rose or fan approach) that can better protect and preserve a vineyard. Drawings and full-color photographs will further bolster your mastery of these crucial techniques.
