Asian-American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In 1990, President George W. Bush designated May as Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese immigrants to the U.S. in 1843. Many colleges and universities celebrate this heritage month in April while students are still on campus.
