Blood-borne Pathogens

What we do

The Blood-borne Pathogen Policy applies to employees and students who have occupational exposure with blood or other potentially infectious materials. The Industrial Hygienist in EHS manages the Blood-borne Pathogen program, maintains records, and investigates all possible exposure incidents. Questions regarding selection of decontamination agents, appropriate personal protective equipment, proper work methods, etc., should be directed to the Industrial Hygienist.

How you can help

Employees and students are responsible for complying with the Blood-borne Pathogen Policy, ensuring that hazards from potentially infectious materials are minimized through the use of safe work practices, engineering controls, appropriate personal protective equipment and prompt decontamination of spills. Supervisors are responsible for informing employees and students of the provisions of this policy, advising them of training opportunities available through EHS, and supplying them with necessary personal protective equipment.
