First steps toward a career in occupational therapy.

The pre-occupational therapy (OT) focus is an advising program to help students select courses and become well prepared for application to occupational therapy school.

The steps toward your career as a occupational therapist begin by taking the required pre-OT courses, completing your undergraduate degree, and gaining required clinical experience. Common prerequisite courses include anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biology, general psychology, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, statistics, and sociology/anthropology. Common pre-OT majors include psychology, biology, and exercise science. You will also need to seek out volunteer opportunities to shadow occupational therapists and to gain clinical experience.

Completing these steps are prerequisites for applying to either a masters or doctoral occupational therapy (OT) program.
