Workshops

Mental Health

  • Connecting U and I
    Everyone faces adversity, but it is how we respond to those tough times that counts! In this strengths-based workshop, participants are encouraged to think about their sources of strength, including who or what they can turn to for support when times get tough. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • Stress Management
    What is stress? Is all stress bad? We all encounter stress, so how we cope with stress is vital. In this workshop, participants will learn all about stress and try out some stress management strategies to find what works for them! This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • QPR: Question, Persuade and Refer for Suicide Prevention
    Learn three basic steps to help a friend in distress. In this presentation, participants will learn the warning signs of suicide, the importance of speaking up and how to find help for those in distress and/or thinking about suicide. This workshop lasts approximately 60 minutes.
  • Supporting Students in Distress
    In this interactive workshop learn how to recognize when students are struggling, how to have a conversation to get them connected to help and how to create an environment that encourages success. This workshop lasts approximately 60 minutes.
  • Laughter Yoga
    Laughter Yoga is laughing with purpose. We know that laughing provides many wellbeing benefits and connection. Laughter yoga uses breathing techniques and laughing with a bit of movement. You can even get the benefits if you aren't really laughing (but genuine laughter often comes naturally during the session). This is appropriate for all activity levels and abilities. A full laugher yoga session lasts 20-30 minutes, but can also be facilitated as a 10-15 minute ice breaker.

Alcohol and Other Drugs

  • Alcohol 101
    Everything you need to know about alcohol and college — practice pouring a standard drink, bust commons myths, learn about blood alcohol content (BAC) and why alcohol affects people differently, and get the tools to keep yourself and your friends safer. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • I Got Your Back: Bystander Intervention
    I Got Your Back is an alcohol bystander intervention program designed to help students recognize the signs of acute alcohol poisoning, practice how to intervene and help look out for each other. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • Recovery Ally Training
    Learn knowledge and skills to be an active ally for individuals seeking and sustaining recovery from substance misuse by helping confront stigma and common myths, understand communication best practices and encourage healthy supports. Participants will explore ways we can all contribute to having a “recovery-ready" campus and learn about available resources and how to access them. This workshop lasts 60-90minutes.

Relationships

  • Sex Scenes: Boundaries, Consent and Safer Sex
    In this workshop, participants will think about their sexual values, set boundaries for physically intimacy, gain communication skills and learn about safer sex including STI and unintended pregnancy prevention. Participants will then use the information learned to respond to hypothetical and potentially risky sex scenarios where boundaries may be tested. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • Healthy Relationships: Desires and Deal-breakers
    In this workshop, participants will discuss and learn about aspects of healthy relationships, reflect on what types of relationships they are or are not interested in, consider qualities of partners that are important to them and reflect on relationship red flags and how to support a friend. This workshop is provided in collaboration with the Violence Prevention Programs. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.

Nutrition and Wellbeing

  • Healthy Eating on a College Budget
    Eating healthy can seem like an expensive alternative to fast food and microwave meals, but with some simple grocery shopping tips, cooking skills and preparation, a healthy diet can be delicious and affordable. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • What's Up with My Wellness Wheel?
    Wellness is a weighty word with a big definition. Learn about six components of wellness and see where you stack up. Maintaining balance in physical health, social health, emotional health, occupational health, spiritual health and intellectual health takes some work, but finding the right balance in your wellness wheel can keep you on the road to success and happiness. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
  • Sleep 101
    Why is sleep so important for your overall health and academic success? In this workshop, participants will examine their own sleep quality, learn about the importance of sleep and learn how to apply the "Great 8" tips and techniques to enhance their own sleep health. Taking small steps toward 7-9 hours of sleep each night can pay big rewards in terms of overall health and wellness. This workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.

We’ll also share tips and tools to help you navigate food choices on campus (including The Hub).
  • GREEN DOT – Overview Workshop
    Looking out for each other is one of the most powerful tools to keeping our campus safe. Host a member of the Green Dot team to lead activities about “green dots,” “red dots,” and what that means for our campus
  • Supporting Food Insecure Students 
    Become an advocate for food insecure students! Nearly half of all U of I students experienced food insecurity in 2019. In this online workshop, participants will define food insecurity, learn about what it means to be food insecure, brainstorm strategies to support students experiencing food insecurity, and learn about resources. This workshop can be tailored for students, faculty, and/or staff.

Question Persuade Refer Suicide Prevention Training

QPR is an evidenced-based, one-hour training program to help faculty, staff and students respond to someone in a mental health crisis and thinking about suicide. Drop-ins welcome for in-person sessions, registration required for virtual sessions. Learn more and register here

Recovery Ally Training
