As Idaho’s land grant university, the University of Idaho has kept education, research and outreach at its core since its inception. But as the economy has diversified and presented new challenges, the university has pursued innovative strategies to engage in Idaho’s economic development. The Office of Economic Development was established to help meet this need.
The University of Idaho's mission in economic development is to collaborate in creating a vibrant and sustainable economy that improves quality of life and benefits Idaho, the region and beyond. We do this by mobilizing resources to advance innovation, help employers grow and prosper, strengthen communities and regional economies, and create an educated workforce.
Using information from surveys of internal and external stakeholders and input from an economic development summit, the university is developing its strategies for supporting economic development initiatives across the state and region.
One such initiative was to work with various state agencies and local governments, business and industry, economic development organizations, and others in developing a statewide, comprehensive economic development strategy: Pathways to Accelerate Idaho.
