Info to Provide 911

Call 911 When it is Safe to Do So:

When calling 911 from your cellphone give the operator the following information:
  • The University of Idaho location/address where help is needed. Be specific! The operator WILL NOT automatically be given the location you are calling from the wireless phone number.
  • The phone number you’re calling from. Once you have placed your call to 911, leave your cellular phone turned on in case the 911 operator needs to recontact you for more information.
  • Describe the problem and indicate if it has just happened or is still in progress.
  • Give your name and any information on who is involved.
  • Answer all other questions as quickly and accurately as possible.
  • Follow all of the directions given to you by the 911 operator.
  • Stay on the phone as long as it is safe to do so.
When calling 911 from work give the operator the following information:
  • The location/address where help is needed. Be specific! Tell the 911 operator which building, what floor, room number and specific directions of how to reach the location of the emergency. If possible, send someone to meet the emergency personnel who are responding so that they can be directed to the exact location.
  • The phone number you’re calling from. Include extension number if necessary.
  • Describe the problem and indicate if it has just happened or is still in progress.
  • Give your name and any information on who is involved.
  • Answer all other questions as quickly and accurately as possible.
  • Follow all of the directions given to you by the 911 operator.
  • Stay on the phone as long as it is safe to do so.


Remember

911 calls from payphones are free but make sure you provide the 911 operator the information as given above!
