Two University of Idaho students have been awarded Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association (PNNA) intern grants. An accolade only four students lay claim to this year.
Senior Kaitlyn Krasselt, and junior Ryan Tarinelli, both journalism majors and employees of the Argonaut are two of four recipients of the PNNA grant. The $1,500 educational grant is provided to students who secure an internship accompanied by a letter of recommendation.
“It’s an endorsement to the 25-odd newspapers in our region that these people are quality. It tells them that they’ll have a good employee and for our students to have an opportunity like this is so cool,” said student media adviser Shawn O’Neal.
Krasselt, of Moscow, has worked at the Argonaut since her first year, originally as an office assistant and now serves as a news editor. Tarinelli, of Bellview, Wash. is the current opinion editor and an accomplished trombone player.
“It’s a significant achievement for us. These are the awards we strive for,” said O’Neal.
