Free Moscow Drive-In Offers Movies at ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center Parking Lot

May 13, 2020

MOSCOW, Idaho — May 13, 2020 — The ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center gravel parking lot will be transformed into a free drive-in movie theatre for the next four Saturdays for the community to enjoy.

The University of Idaho, City of Moscow and Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre have teamed up to provide a fun movie experience during the pandemic. The Moscow Drive-In gate opens at 7 p.m., and movies start at 8 p.m. Enter on Stadium Drive.

The movie lineup includes:

  • “Yesterday,” (2019, romantic comedy, PG-13), May 16;
  • “Mean Girls,” (2004, teen comedy, PG-13), May 23;
  • “A League of Their Own,” (1992, sports comedy-drama, PG), May 30; and
  • “Mission Impossible: Fallout,” (2018, action-adventure, PG-13), June 6.

The idea for the drive-in was inspired by the continued need to social distance.

“We’re pleased to bring a safe, fun and free activity to the community, while Moscow and the state of Idaho reopen from COVID-19-related closures,” said Laurel Meyer, events and marketing coordinator for U of I’s Department of Student Involvement.

The movies are on a first-come, first-served basis. Early arrival is encouraged as attendance is limited to 140 vehicles. The movies will not be canceled for weather.

Attendees will be directed to park in every other space to encourage social distancing. Audio will be broadcast via radio. Running vehicles on auxiliary power is recommended. Guests must stay in their vehicles or in the beds of their trucks, unless they are using a bathroom. No smoking, vaping or alcohol is allowed.

Vandals Dining will offer concessions, and attendees are welcome to bring their own snacks.

Local high schools will be using the movie platform and drive-in structure to host commencement ceremonies.

Sponsors of Moscow Drive-In include: U of I Administrative Operations, Vandal Entertainment, U of I Parking and Transportation, City of Moscow, Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre, Vandals Dining, Tammy’s Alliance, Swire Coke and United Rentals. Donations will be accepted for the Moscow Food Bank, Vandal Food Pantry, Idaho Foodbank or the Moscow Senior Meal Program.

For a map, more rules and other details, visit the Moscow Drive-In website.

With guidance from Public Health regarding COVID-19, the Department of Student Involvementplans to bring back the annual free Screen on the Green movie series this summer.
