U of I Presents Free Virtual Workshop Reading of ‘Happy Mess’
October 02, 2020
MOSCOW, Idaho — Oct. 1, 2020 — How important is happiness to you? What are you willing to sacrifice in the pursuit of happiness?
“Happy Mess,” by Ian Paul Messersmith, Master of Fine Arts playwriting candidate at the University of Idaho, explores these questions and more, as new and old family secrets are revealed in a dark comedy that kicks off “First Bite,” a new play development series by the U of I Department of Theatre Arts.
Free virtual readings of “Happy Mess” take place 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11. Each reading is followed by a question/answer session with the playwright, Director Sarah Alice Campbell, cast and crew.
“First Bite” provides emerging U of I playwrights the chance to receive development support in the form of staged readings, workshops and premiere productions and creates a unique space for playwrights to collaborate with director, cast and crew and the audience in the journey of preparing a work for the stage.
“Happy Mess” contains references to mature situations and is best suited for those over the age of 16.
Register for 6 p.m. performances at uidaho.edu/happy6pm.
