Paul L. Blanton, 92, Spokane, Washington

Paul L. Blanton, founding dean of the College of Art and Architecture, passed away May 22. He is remembered as a dynamic leader who steered the program and college from 1959-89. Paul was instrumental in securing the first national architecture program accreditation. Paul graduated from U of I in 1957 and began teaching in 1959. In 1962, he earned a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkley and continued to teach at U of I. He served as dean from 1981-89 and was known for his leadership, skill as a professional architect and professor, and ability to build relationships with Pacific Northwest stakeholders. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Paul L. Blanton, FAIA Art and Architecture Scholarship Endowment, University of Idaho, 875 Perimeter Drive MS 3143, Moscow, ID, 83844-3143. CAA will have a memorial service during U of I Leadership Weekend planned for October. The event date and time will be announced.
