Fritz Fiedler Named Chair of Department of Civil Engineering

University of Idaho Professor Fritz Fiedler has been named chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). He will begin serving in the position Thursday, July 1. Fiedler has taught more than a dozen different courses at every level from freshman to graduate, including CEE Senior Design, in which he has supervised approximately 100 projects in collaboration with industry sponsors. He was a co-creator of U of I’s unique interdisciplinary Water Resources Graduate Program.
Fiedler has conducted a broad range of research in hydrology and interdisciplinary water resources, recently completing approximately $2.5 million in grants from the National Science Foundation in collaboration with Native American Tribes, developing culturally relevant youth STEM education programs on environmental decision-making and systems thinking.
He formerly advised the U of I Student Chapter of ASCE. Together with many wonderful students, he founded the U of I Humanitarian Engineering Corps to collaborate with international communities and organizations to develop appropriate, sustainable infrastructure and programs to connect people with basic needs.
